Chan Chan - the biggest mud brick city in the world

Just out of Huanchaco we visited Chan Chan. It is a city made up of 11 palaces and we visited just one of these. It is in the middle of the desert and there were huge systems developed to bring water in to the cities. See the picture below for the wells that were in the middle of the cities. The reeds that are growing in the water are those used for the reed fishing boats. Lots of the bricks were sculpted with different designs, reflecting things like fish, waves and nets.
